UK Ghost Gear Coalition

UK

UK Ghost Gear Coalition (UKGGC) was formed in 2021 as a new coalition of Fathoms Free, Ghost Diving UK, NARC and Sea Shepherd Ghostnet Campaign. By combining their resources, they aim to widen their reach within UK waters and to reduce response time to reported sightings of ghost gear, being ALDFG (abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear).

Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Center

Honduras

WSORC operates one of the few, year-round whale shark monitoring and research centers in the world. A dedicated team of scientists and volunteers work to maintain and restore the marine environment in Utila, Honduras, via research and education. Research includes whale sharks, as well as lionfish, SCTLD and coral reefs. In addition, WSORC increases the presence and availability of researchers in Honduras to work with whale sharks, and provides a strong platform for aspiring Marine Biologists to learn and help kick-start their careers in Marine Conservation via their internship programme.

World Animal Protection (formerly the World Society for the Protection of Animals)

UK

World Animal Protection is an animal welfare organization with regional hubs in: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, and offices in 15 countries, with the international office in London. Their Sea Change campaign is aimed at removing ghost fishing gear from the oceans, ie. abandoned gear in which marine life becomes entangled and dies. World Animal Protection has been working to educate the public on the problem of keeping marine animals in captivity since 1991. They work in partnership with others to protect sea life around the world.

We know all divers are conservationists at heart. This category is devoted to diving professionals who work to protect and enhance marine life and the marine environment.
