WWF South Africa

South Africa

WWF South Africa's Oceans programme includes the SASSI initiative: Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative is an app-based tool which shows 'the sustainability status of what you’re eating. Fish that are red-listed should be avoided completely, think twice about eating orange-listed fish, and green-listed means you can go ahead!'

WWF Tunisia

Tunisia

WWF's Marine programme in Tunisia focuses on protection of the marine environment via the establishment of Marine Protected Areas, protection of marine life including turtles, combating plastic pollution and the promotion of a blue economy

Yapeka

Indonesia

YAPEKA works to establish community-based conservation efforts across Indonesia, concentrating on building community awareness and developing education programmes to help communities sustainably manage their natural resources, with a particular focus on rural areas in or around key biodiversity sites, such as marine protected areas (MPAs) and national parks. In North Sulawesi they work to raise awareness on the importance of seagrass in preserving the health and sustainability of the region’s coastal ecosystems, and introduced dugongs as a flagship species for community-based conservation efforts. An example of the success of their LLMAs is the Bulutui community in North Sulawesi decided to close one of their traditional octopus fishing locations in order to manage their resources more effectively. Now octopus may only be caught in this area once every three months during a seven-day fishing period.

Yayasan LINI

Their approach is that community-based reef management is the best way to develop and maintain the marine resources on which so many Indonesians depend for their future. They work in a number of areas, including: Coral Reef Restoration, Coral Reef Studies, Community Conservation, Conservation Education, and Aquaculture and Fisheries Management. They are a partner of Blue Ventures.
