OMCAR Palk Bay Centre

India

The Omcar Foundation was created in 2007 for the conservation of dugongs, seagrasses, and mangroves through scientific and traditional knowledge. Under the foundation’s auspices, the OMCAR Palk Bay Centre provides services to the local fishing communities in coastal environmental education and awareness, a dugong and marine mammal stranding response, seagrass and mangrove restoration projects, sustainable squid fishery, tree planting, amongst others. Participatory conservation and sustainable livelihoods are key to their mission.

Ocean Outcomes

Ocean Outcomes works to create new and innovative ways to finance the transition to sustainable fisheries. This includes examining the feasibility of a Sustainable Seafood Fund and advancing a business-driven, triple bottom line approach to the challenges facing many of the world’s small scale fishers. This approach focuses on harnessing untapped financing and increasing profitability in small scale fishing enterprises to improve livelihoods and ecosystem health; creating a positive feedback loop for people, planet and profit. They are active in the USA, China, UK, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and Spain.

OceanCanada

Canada

The OceanCanada Partnership is a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) project that brings partners from across Canada together to holistically study the challenges and opportunities facing Canada’s oceans and coastal communities, and is aimed at building resilient / sustainable oceans on all Canadian coasts and supporting coastal communities as they respond to rapid and uncertain change

OceanWatch Australia

Australia

OceanWatch Australia Ltd is a national environmental company that works to advance sustainability in the Australian seafood industry. They operate community based coastal habitat restoration programs, working on a broad range of projects to improve environmental practices, protect marine species, reduce by-catch, introduce sustainable technologies, change behaviours and restore marine habitats.

Oceana Belize

Belize

Oceana has been in Belize since 2009 advocating sustainable marine policies, including combatting problems caused by damaging fishing methods and gear, plastic pollution and offshore drilling in Belize's waters which would cause damage to vital marine ecosystems. In 2017 the country unanimously passed a bill which imposed a moratorium on drilling for oil in Belize's marine territory in order to protect their barrier reef. Oceans remains involved in protecting the moratorium.

Oceana Brasil

Brazil

The Brazilian branch of the global marine conservation agency Oceana, with a focus on marine pollution and sustainable fishing.

Oceana Canada

Canada

Oceana Canada was established to protect and restore the extensive Canadian oceans and their marine life. The charity works with civil society, academics, fishers, and government with the aim to return Canada’s formerly vibrant oceans to health. Advocates for policies to improve fish stocks, amongst their many campaigns, they have successfully campaigned to end the shark fin trade, make rebuilding depleted fish populations the law, improve the way fisheries are managed and protect marine habitat. Plastic pollution, seafood fraud, the North Atlantic whales, are amongst their current campaigns.

Oceana Chile

Chile

Oceana in Chile has the mission to protect the oceans and marine life in the extensive Chilean waters. They have achieved important victories in Chile: the creation of marine protected areas, the defense of vulnerable ecosystems from pollution and the public policies promoted for the recovery of national fisheries,

Oceana Europe

Spain

In line with Oceana's missions around the world, in Europe the mission is to protect the oceans and marine life, via advocacy and campaigns. Since 2003, Oceana has achieved dozens of concrete policy victories for marine life and habitats in Europe, including stopping bottom trawling in sensitive habitat areas, protecting sea turtles from commercial fishing gear, the establishment of marine protected areas and protecting marine life. In Europe there are offices in several countries including Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva and London, UK.

Oceana Mexico

Mexico

Part of the Oceana country network, Oceana in Mexico is dedicated to protecting the ocean and marine life, including combatting plastic pollution. One programme involves targeting the government to address species substitution and seafood fraud via a traceability policy for fish and seafood, from ship to plate.

Oceana Peru

Peru

In Peru, as in other coastal countries, life in the oceans is in danger due to pollution, overfishing, illegal fishing, the destruction of habitats and climate change. Oceana's team of scientists, economists, lawyers, communicators and other collaborators work to change these threats.

Oceana Philippines

Philippines

Oceana Philippines seeks to restore marine life in the Philippine seas, including promoting sound science-based policies to help ensure sustainable fisheries and vibrant marine ecosystems. Their current campaigns focus on sustainable fishing, protecting corals and stopping pollution of the seas by plastic and dumping.
