Ocean Spirits

Grenada

Ocean Spirits is a registered, non-profit marine conservation organisation based in Grenada, focused primarily on the conservation of marine turtles. Their projects involve research on the local turtle populations with the aim to protect them, education and engagement with the local community in order to sustain the turtle populations and to combat turtle egg harvesting. Ecotourism forms part in their conservation initiatives.

Canada

A global conservation organization, Ocean Wise operates an number of programmes involving research and education regarding the threats facing the oceans, such as Ocean Wise Seafood which is a sustainable seafood program, Sea forestation which involves restoring, planting, managing and caring for underwater seaweed forests, their Cleanup programme and plastic pollution initiative, marine research and education

Ocean and Climate Platform

The Ocean & Climate Platform’s mission is to promote thinking and dialogue between the scientific community, civil society and political decision makers. Rallying 100 organizations across the world (research institutes, NGOs, foundations, science centres, companies and local and regional authorities) the OCP endeavours to foster scientific knowledge and promote solutions relating to the oceans in the context of tackling climate change. A leading organization of the ocean-climate community, the OCP enjoys observer status at UN conventions on climate (UNFCCC) and biodiversity (CDB), and participates in the French governmental review of IPCC reports.

Oceanic Preservation Society

Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) inspires, empowers, and connects a global community using high impact films and visual storytelling to expose the most critical issues facing our oceans, and our planet. Founded by former National Geographic photographer and dive enthusiast Louie Psihoyos in 2005, OPS films include Academy Award-winning The Cove (2009), Racing Extinction (2015), and The Game Changers (2019). OPS Projection Events have illuminated iconic buildings, including the United Nations Building (2014), the Empire State Building (2015), The Vatican (2015), and more recently, the Armadillo in Glasgow, Scotland during Climate COP 26 (2021). The Oceanic Society works to improve ocean health by deepening the connections between people and nature to address the root cause of its decline: human behaviour. Focus is on: the consequences of pollution, carbon footprint and seafood choices.

Oceanologico

La Palma, Islas Canarias (Canary Islands)

Oceanologico conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of marine biodiversity, environmental pollution (microplastics) and the relationship between humans and the ocean on the island of La Palma in the Canarian Archipelago. They also conduct snorkelling and diving tours and have an overall aim of improving ocean literacy generally.

Oceanosanos Healthy Oceans

Uruguay

Oceanosanos is a campaign created by the OCC (Cetacean Conservation Organization) in Uruguay to inform citizens about the threat to marine biodiversity of the current fishing model and to create propositional actions. They work 'to strengthen sustainable fishing, create marine reserves and combat ocean problems'.

Oceans Research

South Africa

Oceans Research specialises in investigating the biology and ecology of mega-fauna, including sharks, marine mammals and terrestrial carnivores. They advise governmental and non-governmental bodies on relevant conservation issues.

OctoGroup

USA

OCTO runs a number of programmes with the intention of connecting ocean professionals to the knowledge and networks they need, in order to ‘empower conservationists and resource managers to apply best practices worldwide’. The programmes include: Octo Webinars - helping ocean professional stay current on research and tools; MPA help - informing the management of MPAs; EBM Help - answering questions on ocean management and protection; Ocean Plastic list - sharing knowledge for fighting ocean plastic; and Siphonphore – making global communcations easier. Over 100,000 ocean professionals in 120 countries use OCTO programs each year.

International
