East Africa Whale Shark Trust
Kenya
The East African Whale Shark Trust is a grass roots project dedicated to marine conservation in general and whale shark conservation in particular. Based on Diani beach the EAWST was founded in response to the increase in the whale shark population along the Kenyan coast as well as increased interest from the tourist sector. The increase in the number of whale sharks along the Kenyan coast has meant they have become a target. All that is required by international law is that whale shark trade be monitored. The EAWST provides a research centre for collecting and analysing data on the local whale shark population, its habits and movements. The Trust works with other regional organisations, the long term goal being to increase protection and promote the conservation of the biggest fish in the ocean.
Eco-Union

It comprises a regional sector review, as well as scalable regional initiatives to strengthen maritime governance and environmental management in the coastal and maritime sector.
Ecologistas en Accion
Spain
Ecologistas en Accion is a confederation of more than 300 environmental groups in towns and cities in Spain. It is part of the so-called social ecologism, which holds the view that environmental problems have their origin in an increasingly globalized production and consumption model, from which other social problems also derive, and that must be transformed if an ecological crisis is to be avoided. To this end, it carries out awareness campaigns, public or legal complaints, while at the same time developing concrete and viable alternatives in each of the areas in which it carries out its activity. In addition to the local groups, there are thematic areas integrated by volunteers from different groups, one being about the Marine Environment.
Equilibrio Marino
Spain
Equilibrio Marino promotes the effective protection of marine areas to guarantee the recovery of marine ecosystems, using current scientific research. One such project is the SOS Corales (SOS Corals), which is a recovery program of the Candelabro coral and orange coral colonies of the coast of Spain. Amongst their many projects are the creation of artificial reef parks, protected marine micro areas in the Alboran Sea, a Sea Brigade which reacts to marine pollution including involving divers in underwater ocean cleanups in the south of Spain, and advocacy for sanctuaries for cetaceans.
