Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge

USA

The Refuge is a 20.5-mile section of shoreline along Florida’s east central coast, and is home to the most important sea turtle nesting habitat in the United States. More loggerheads nest within the Carr Refuge than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere, and it is also the most significant area for green turtle nesting in North America. The Refuge hosts a variety of birds, reptiles, fish, mammals and invertebrates including brown pelicans, sea turtles, gopher tortoises, snakes, manatees, and crabs that make their homes in the ocean as well as on several habitats including the beach and dunes, coastal strand and scrub, maritime hammock, and mangroves.

Archipelagos, Institute of Marine Conservation is a Greek non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1998. Archipelagos is committed to researching and defending the biodiversity of the Greek seas and islands, as well as of the NE Mediterranean region overall. The focus is on a combination of multi-disciplinary scientific research and efficient conservation work.

Iceland

AMCC is an organization based in Iceland that works towards marine conservation. Through its solution-based and scientific approach, AMCC aims to lead by example and encourage, inform and educate the public on the necessary steps to take. They are included in the Nordic Coastal Cleanup network.

Ark2030

UK

Ark2030 is on a mission 'to restore the 500 million hectares of ecosystems destroyed by mankind since the beginning of the industrial revolution'. A strategic and collaborative approach, working with specialist partners around the world, Ark2030 has developed funding models for environmental restoration programmes. They invest in the companies that are working to restore the natural world. Included in their sights are: Cleaning up the Ganges, restoring the global whale population, targeting plastic pollution in the oceans and on land, improving island eco-systems, developing mangrove plantations, protecting and restoring the Great Barrier Reef and other coral restoration programmes such as Coralive's Maldives project.

Asociacion Espanola de Basuras Marinas

Spain

The Spanish Association of Marine Waste (AEBAM) promotes, disseminates and awareness about the impact of waste in marine environments.

Asociacion Vertidos Cero

Spain

Based in Spain, the main objective of the Zero Waste Association is to serve as a platform for research, training, dissemination and action on all aspects related to the prevention, minimization and elimination of waste, enhancing social awareness and promoting participation to advance towards sustainable development. The association was formed by a group of environmental professionals concerned about the impact of waste on the environment.

Associacao MarBrasil

Brazil

MarBrasil focuses on the conservation and preservation of the marine environment and the sustainable development of the Brazilian coastal area. They run several projects and programmes including in conservation of endangered species, research for the creation and management of marine and coastal Conservation Units, conservation of marine biodiversity and fisheries resources, education for marine and coastal conservation, and research and technological Innovation for conservation. For example, destructive fishing practices since the 70s have depleted fish stocks in Parana, causing difficulties to communities dependent on the ocean. One of their programmes – The Marine Biodiversity Recovery Program (REBIMAR) - works on the recovery and conservation of marine environments, as well as the preservation of endangered marine species, in addition to environmental education actions for the community.

Association for Protection of Aquatic Wildlife of Albania (APAWA)

Albania

Based in Albania, APAWA's main goals are: public awareness for the protection and preservation of aquatic wildlife; sustainable development in coastal and wetland areas; influence for solution of the problems linked to the aquatic communities; monitoring of eventual amelioration of aquatic and coastal ecosystems. (Website not functioning July 2021)

Association of Reef Keepers (ARK)

British Virgin Islands

ARK is dedicated to ensuring the preservation and sustainability of the BVI marine environment for the benefit of all future generations. In addition to their many projects, they collect information used to determine short and long-term changes of the marine environment which will ultimately aid effective marine resource management strategies. Community involvement and education are key strategies. The projects include: BVI Sea Turtle Programme, Coral Restoration and Rescue, Sustainable Cruising and Yachting, and Reef to Ridge (to reduce flooding, island erosion and sedimentation in coastal waters)

Associação Portuguesa para o Estudo e Conservação de Elasmobrânquios

Portugal

APECE was founded with the aim of promoting the conservation and the study of sharks and rays (elasmobranchs) in Portugal. Their activities include: Lobbying for sustainable fisheries policies; Support for research and scientific projects that promote understanding of the effects that pollution has on sharks and rays; Implementing programmes and activities that promote public education and awareness of sharks and rays and conservation efforts on behalf of marine life.

Atlantic Whale and Dolphin Foundation

UK, Tenerife

The AWdF, through its operating base in Tenerife, Canary Islands, has been running its conservation and research programme, including its volunteer programme on the whale watching boats for 25 years. Activities revolve around cetacean awareness education, conservation and research initiatives. The AWdF oversees the Atlantic Ocean Cetacean Network (AOCN), and an extensive range of awards and grants aimed at facilitating cetacean programmes in the region. They also work with the tourism industry, promoting cetacean conservation and promoting responsible whale watching and other ecotourism opportunities. AWdF is part of the Fair Earth Foundation family.

Atlantic White Shark Conservancy

USA

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is committed to raising public awareness of white sharks. The Conservancy supports scientific research, improves public safety, and educates the community, to inspire conservation of Atlantic white sharks.
