Marine Conservation Philippines

Philippines

MCP is dedicated to preserving and protecting coastal resources in the Philippines through education, volunteerism and research. They work to preserve fragile marine habitats like coral reefs and mangrove forests, with an additional aim of improving the quality of life for marginalised fisherfolk in the central Philippines. A volunteer based organisation, international volunteers can join a large professional team of marine biologists, scientists, teachers and dive instructors. Participation in the program involves extensive scuba diving activities, with training offered on site. ‘Since becoming operational in 2015, MCP has led mangrove replantation efforts, and have removed tons of marine debris and ghost nets. Marine Conservation Society

UK

The Marine Conservation Society, based in the UK, organises multifaceted marine conservation projects, including Beachwatch and the Great British Beach Clean weekend annually in September. Plastic pollution is one of several focuses. Their Seasearch project involves volunteers collecting information about marine habitats, plants and animals underwater, thus engaging divers and snorkellers in marine-life monitoring research. The MCS is an active advocate, promoting marine protected areas as a policy with the aim of 30% of UK waters having protected status by 2030.

Marine Conservation Society Seychelles

Seychelles

MCSS promotes the conservation of the marine environment through education, research and through the implementation of a number of programmes. Current projects include Whale Shark, Turtle and Coral Reef monitoring and an environmentally protective mooring programme. The aims of the society are to improve the conservation of marine ecosystems through scientific, management, educational and training programmes.

Ireland

Marine Dimensions is a community driven enterprise dedicated to marine environmental education, research and conservation. With the aim of creating an appreciation of marine biodiversity through education, research and community based participation, they run workshops and courses for kids, teens and adults through their Ocean School programme. They also run summer camps, citizen science projects and community based research programmes.

Marine Dynamics

South Africa

Based in Gansbaai, South Africa, Marine Dynamics is a family of organisations dedicated to the marine environment. In conjunction with Dyer Island Cruises and the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, they are involved with various and diverse research and conservation projects concerning the Marine Big Five - penguins, whales, dolphins, seals and sharks - as well as educational and upliftment programmes in the local community. Current programmes/activities include an African Penguin nesting project, Great White Shark research including acoustic tagging and tracking, Fishing line disposal bin project, Shark egg case collection programme, Marine Animal Stranding rescue, research into the Southern Right Whale, Cape fur seal and Humpack Whale populations, amongst several others.

Marine Dynamics Academy

South Africa

The goal of the Marine Dynamics Academy, is ‘to give people who love the marine environment a chance to immerse themselves within it, developing skills and experiences which they can use to enhance their own careers and life goals.’ Their experienced specialists train in three broad areas: Scientific internships, Marine-Coastal Guiding, and Marine Volunteers. The Academy is part of an umbrella organization which encourages ecotourism to further marine research and conservation goals. Gansbaai, where the Academy is based, is known the world over for the Marine Big 5, and especially for great white sharks

Marine Environment Protection Authority

Sri Lanka

MEPA is the ' apex body responsible for the prevention, controlling, and managing pollution in Sri Lanka’s marine environment and is the enforcing agency of the laws and provisions stipulated in the Marine Pollution Prevention Act No.35 of 2008'.

Marine Fish Conservation Network

USA

The Marine Fish Conservation Network is a US coalition of commercial and recreational fishing associations, regional and national conservation groups, aquaria, and marine science organizations committed to sustaining fish populations, healthy marine ecosystems, and fishing communities. Their goal is to maintain and strengthen the conservation and management objectives of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.

Marine Life Society of South Australia

Australia

Established in 1976, the Marine Life Society of South Australia is a long-standing incorporated association which aims to foster the study and appreciation of marine life and encourage marine conservation engagement in South Australia. The society's most notable recent achievement was the state-wide protection of all Syngnathidae (including the Leafy sea dragon, Weedy sea dragon, pipefish and seahorses) under the State's Fisheries Management Act.

Marine Litter Solutions

Global

Marine Litter Solutions.com showcases the Global Plastics Alliance's work toward solving ocean pollution and reducing ocean plastic. Building on previous efforts in individual regions, the world plastics organizations that have joined the Global Plastics Alliance and signed the “Global Declaration for Solutions on Marine Litter” have agreed to focus projects to address marine litter. Through their programs and partnerships in nearly 20 countries, they are active in increasing recycling and recovery, and increasing ocean pollution clean-up and marine litter prevention programs.

Marine Mammal Center

The Marine Mammal Center is a private, non-profit U.S. organization that was established for the purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine mammals who are injured, ill or abandoned. It is a veterinary research hospital and educational center, dedicated to the rescue of ill and injured marine mammals.
