Description

Advocacy, Sustainable fishing

The DSCC was founded to address the issue of bottom trawling on the high seas in the absence of an effective governance regime. The coalition is made up of over 70 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), fishers organisations and law and policy institutes, all committed to protecting the deep sea. The alliance works to promote the conservation of biodiversity on the high seas, and is calling on the United Nations General Assembly to institute a moratorium on high seas bottom trawling in order to protect seamounts, cold-water corals and vulnerable deep-sea ecosystems. DSCC members include local, regional, national and international conservation and environmental organizations.
