Nausicaa Centre National de la Mer

France

Nausicaa is the largest public aquarium of Europe. Beyond an aquarium, it aims to be a centre in which an awareness of the need to protect the marine environment is communicated to all visitors.

Ocean and Climate Platform

France

The Ocean & Climate Platform,s mission is to promote thinking and dialogue between the scientific community, civil society and political decision makers. Rallying 100 organizations across the world (research institutes, NGOs, foundations, science centres, companies and local and regional authorities) the OCP endeavours to foster scientific knowledge and promote solutions relating to the oceans in the context of tackling climate change. A leading organization of the ocean-climate community, the OCP enjoys observer status at UN conventions on climate (UNFCCC) and biodiversity (CDB), and participates in the French governmental review of IPCC reports.

Ocean Care

Switzerland

Through research and conservation projects, campaigns, environmental education, and involvement in a range of important international committees, OceanCare undertakes concrete steps to improve the situation for wildlife in the world's oceans. In 2011, OceanCare was granted Special Consultative Status on marine issues with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Ocean Champions

USA

Ocean Champions appears to be inactive (mid-2022). It was a political advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the ocean and its wildlife, and focused on building champions for ocean conservation in the U.S. Congress.

Oceana

USA

Oceana is a Washington D.C based ocean conservation and advocacy organisation committed to save and restore oceans through targeted policy campaigns. Founded in 2001, Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization exclusively working for the conservation of ocean. The organisation carries out targeted campaigns to prevent the collapse of fish populations, marine mammals and other damages to sea life resulted from industrial fishing and pollution. As part of its campaigns, Oceana is involved in efforts to end major sources of ocean pollution such as oil, mercury, aquaculture and shipping emissions. In addition, the organisation also campaigns for the protection of vulnerable places in the oceans, including the Arctic, the Aleutian Islands, the Mediterranean and Chile's Juan Fernandez Islands, among others. With a local presence in many countries around the world, it is truly global in its reach. Individual records exist in this database for its operations in US, Europe, Chile, Canada, Belize, Philippines, Brazil, Peru and Mexico.

Oceana Belize

Belize

Oceana is the largest international organization devoted to ocean conservation, with the Belize office focusing particularly on protecting their barrier reef from offshore drilling. In 2017 the country made history by unanimously passing legislation approving a moratorium on offshore drilling in their marine territory. Oceana has been in Belize since 2009 advocating sustainable marine policies, including combatting problems caused by damaging fishing methods and gear, plastic pollution and the offshore drilling in Belize's waters which would cause damage to vital marine ecosystems. Oceana remains committed to upholding the offshore drilling moratorium.

Oceana Canada

Canada

Oceana Canada was established to protect and restore the extensive Canadian oceans and their marine life. The charity works with civil society, academics, fishers, and government with the aim to return Canada's formerly vibrant oceans to health. Advocates for policies to improve fish stocks, amongst their many campaigns, they have successfully campaigned to end the shark fin trade, make rebuilding depleted fish populations the law, improve the way fisheries are managed and protect marine habitat. Plastic pollution, seafood fraud, the North Atlantic whales, are amongst their current campaigns.

Oceana Chile

Chile

Oceana in Chile has the mission to protect the oceans and marine life in the extensive Chilean waters. They have achieved important victories in Chile: the creation of marine protected areas, the defense of vulnerable ecosystems from pollution and the public policies promoted for the recovery of national fisheries,

Oceana Europe

Spain

In line with Oceana's missions around the world, in Europe the mission is to protect the oceans and marine life, via advocacy and campaigns. Since 2003, Oceana has achieved dozens of concrete policy victories for marine life and habitats in Europe, including stopping bottom trawling in sensitive habitat areas, protecting sea turtles from commercial fishing gear, the establishment of marine protected areas and protecting marine life. In Europe there are offices in several countries including Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva and London, UK.

Oceana Mexico

Mexico

Part of the Oceana country network, Oceana in Mexico is dedicated to protecting the ocean and marine life, including combatting plastic pollution. One programme involves targeting the government to address species substitution and seafood fraud via a traceability policy for fish and seafood, from ship to plate.

Oceana Peru

Peru

In Peru, as in other coastal countries, life in the oceans is in danger due to pollution, overfishing, illegal fishing, the destruction of habitats and climate change. Oceana's team of scientists, economists, lawyers, communicators and other collaborators work to change these threats.

Oceana Philippines

Philippines

Oceana Philippines seeks to restore marine life in the Philippine seas, including promoting sound science-based policies to help ensure sustainable fisheries and vibrant marine ecosystems.
