Olive Ridley Project : protecting turtles in the Indian Ocean

Maldives

The Olive Ridley Project protects sea turtles and their habitats in the Indian Ocean through rescue and rehabilitation of injured sea turtles, research and education, removal of ghost gear from the ocean, and by working to reduce and reuse ghost gear. The ORP Marine Turtle Rescue Centre provides veterinarian care and rehabilitation to injured marine turtles rescued across the Maldives.

Parley describes itself as 'the space where creators, thinkers and leaders raise awareness for our oceans and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction' and 'Where creators, thinkers, and leaders come together to raise awareness for our oceans & collaborate to end their destruction.' Founded in 2012 by Cyrill Gutsch, Parley aims to raise awareness about the Oceans, and to inspire and empower diverse groups such as pacesetting companies, brands, organizations, governments, artists, designers, scientists, innovators and environmentalists in the exploration of new ways of protecting this vital part of the planet, especially with regard to plastic pollution of the seas.

Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute

France

The Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute is an oceanographic institute situated on the Île des Embiez. The island is in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in South Western France. The Institute was founded in 1966 in response to one of the first cases of industrial pollution in the Mediterranean, and since then has continued to protect marine life globally, and specifically in the Mediterranean. In the words of Paul Ricard's granddaughter, 'Through its research and public outreach activities, the Institute is addressing today's most pressing challenges: preservation of marine biodiversity, climate change, sustainable exploitation of living resources, and restoring coastal environments. As we race to save the Earth, the Ocean could be our second chance.'
