Rascarey Sea Turtle Conservation Project

Costa Rica

RASCAREY is a young Sea Turtle and Environmental Conservation Project in one of the most remote and biologically rich regions in Costa Rica (Rincon de San Josecito, 10km outside of Drake Bay). The camp is located on an Oceanfront Jungle farm, right next to Corcovado National Park. The project consists of two different seasons: the Sea Turtle Conservation Season and Sustainable Summer Immersion. Local and International volunteers have the opportunity to take part in hands-on sea turtle conservation efforts, upcycling projects, weekly beach cleanups, educational workshops, reforestation, mindfulness practices, creative expression, gardening, construction using natural resources, interaction with native plants and animals, and communal living.

Roatan Marine Park

Honduras

RMP was started by a group of concerned divers and conservationists to protect Roatan’s reefs and ecosystems. They are 'dedicated to the conservation of Roatan’s protected marine and coastal area including all of its flora, fauna, physical and biological characteristics and phenomena, and historical and cultural resources'. They achieve this by a number of practical initiatives, including conducting research into marine species such as sharks, turtles and corals while involving the public in citizen science projects, by creating marine infrastructures so as to minimize damage to reefs such as moorings management, by educating via outreach programmes to local communities and divers, amongst others. In addition, they have a lionfish eradication programme.

SPOT Society of the Protection of Turtles Cyprus

Cyprus

The Marine Turtle Conservation Project (MTCP) continues as a collaboration between SPOT, University of Exeter’s Marine Turtle Research Group and the North Cyprus Department for Environmental Protection. Citizen science is an important contributor into the projects, including volunteering and internships.

Sea Sense

Tanzania

Sea Sense is a community based, Tanzanian NGO that is dedicated to the conservation and protection of endangered marine wildlife and their habitats in Tanzania. Sea Sense started as the Tanzania Turtle & Dugong Programme in 2001. Within two years, over 230 nests had been protected and over 10,000 sea turtle hatchlings had safely reached the sea. Levels of nest poaching reduced dramatically from 80% to less than 2%.

Sea Turtle Conservancy

USA

The Sea Turtle Conservancy seeks to ensure the survival of sea turtles within the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific through research, education, training, advocacy and protection of the natural habitats upon which they depend. Formerly the Caribbean Conservation Corporation, STC is the world's oldest sea turtle research and conservation group.
