Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel

Established in 1953, the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) is Israel's leading environmental non-profit organization, dedicated to protecting and preserving Israel's natural resources, environment, natural assets and unique landscape. This includes a public campaign to reform fishing laws in the Mediterranean 'Fish Responsibly' which aims to improve the marine life and eco-systems along the coast.
Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society Marine Project

Based in Kalpitiya in Northwest Sri Lanka, SLWCS's Marine Project addresses the conservation issues affecting Sri Lanka’s marine wildlife and is also providing opportunities for ecotourism and alternative livelihoods to promote sustainable development in the area. Their aim is to collect information about the current state of the area, including sea turtle, shark, dugong and pink dolphin conservation via nesting surveys, monitoring programmes, in-situ hatching projects, as well as educational workshops, beach clean-ups, mangrove planting, and waste management schemes. They also have an office in Nutley, New Jersey in the USA.

An official EU Citizens Initiative aiming to end shark fin trade in Europe. According to the website, although the removal of fins on board of EU vessels and in EU waters is prohibited and sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached, it has not stopped and the EU is among the biggest exporters of fins. In January 2022 the campaign to end the shark fin trade across the European Union (EU) successfully reached and exceeded the required 1,000,000 statements of support from EU citizens and the minimum supporting thresholds from at least seven member states. Founded in 2014, Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) activates young people, develops and implements innovative solutions, and ‘mobilizes an ocean workforce to restore the health of the ocean in our lifetime’. By supporting innovative startups, nonprofits, and grassroots campaigns through publicity, funding and grants, they are actively working on solving the problems faced by the oceans, including via technological and scientific solutions. As of 2021, they had become involved in 222 initiatives all over the world, each dedicated to restoring and sustaining the health of our ocean focusing on the following 5 general categories of solutions: Carbon (CO2) reduction and blue carbon; Pollution reductions and the circular economy; Blue Foods (Sustainable protein, fisheries and aquaculture); Ocean data, literacy and research; and Ecosystem preservation and restoration.

The main objectives are the conservation of marine living resources and their habitats through measures aimed at promoting sustainable exploitation of marine and coastal resources, the protection of ecosystems and its components having an impact on the marine environment and raising public awareness of environmental matters, as well as helping people affected by ecological disasters and their effects.
Together for the Med
France
Together for the Med was established to reduce fishing pressure in the Mediterranean, with the support of the MAVA Foundation. A group of some 46 NGOs, International Organisations, research centres, private companies, networks and foundations, they are all committed to reducing the pressures on Mediterranean biodiversity. They work together to bring fisheries sustainability, reduce their impact on seagrass meadows and coralligenous habitats, reduce the accidental bycatch of cetaceans, seabirds, sea turtles and sharks, or reduce the negative interactions between fishers and marine mammals. This includes collecting data, raising awareness, improving national and international legal frameworks and developing practical solutions to reduce the pressures of fishing.
