Billion Oyster Project

The mission of this initiative is to restore oyster reefs to New York Harbor through public education. More specifically, Billion Oyster Project aims to replant 1 billion oysters in the harbour by 2035, with the participation of a million New Yorkers. And they are well on their way. So far they have planted 28 million oysters, with the participation of 6,000-plus local students and 9,000-plus volunteers. Their grant will support a citywide symposium for local students to present their research on ecosystems, marine life and water quality in New York Harbor, and on opportunities to make restoration more effective and engage their communities more deeply.

Gruber and is recognized as a US non-profit and Bahamian Charitable Organization. The station conducts dynamic and innovative field research on sharks and their relatives in the pristine waters of Bimini, Bahamas. The station offers multiple opportunities for individuals to get involved such as, volunteering, Research Experience Programs, and more.

Biosphere Foundation's aim is promoting intelligent use of resources, and runs several specific projects related to land, space and sea. They are based in the USA with operations in Indonesia managed by PT Biosphere Stewardship Center and a partnership with Yayasan Biosfir Indonesia to work in Bali Barat National Park. The foundation has a four pronged approach:- Research, Education, Community, and Policy. Amongst their current focus projects is coral restoration.
BirdLife International

BirdLife International is a global partnership of conservation organisations, which established its Marine Programme in 1997. They work with BirdLife Partner organisations around the world and in the high seas 'to advocate for seabirds and their habitats. We use our strong scientific research and new technologies to identify solutions: how and where to act to save seabirds from extinction.' This includes working with fisheries across the world to prevent bycatch of seabirds and other marine animals. Note that the establishment of Marine Protected Areas is one strategy which protects seabirds.
Bite-Back Shark and Marine Conservation

Bite-Back is the UK's only organisation dedicated to the protection of sharks by reducing consumer demand for its meat and fins. With the law of supply and demand at its cornerstone, Bite-Back works together with restaurants, fishmongers and retailers to remove shark products from menus and fish counters, effectively lowering the trade in this threatened species.

Their research and evaluations highlight critical issues, such as the financing mechanisms of the fishing sector, destructive fishing methods such as electric pulse fishing. Their advocacy includes campaigning for protection of sharks and rays, and sustainable fishing.

Blue Action Fund was founded in 2016 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in conjunction with KfW Development Bank, later joined by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). Blue Action Fund is ‘now one of the world’s largest public funders promoting marine conservation and sustainable livelihoods in coastal communities’ Their stated mission is ‘to enhance the management and use of coastal and marine ecosystems to conserve marine biodiversity for future generations while improving the lives of local people today’. This they do by making targeted grants to non-governmental organisations active in developing countries (Africa, South America and Asia)
Blue Climate Solutions

Blue Climate Solutions 'seeks to inform governance and policies on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable development, marine management and conservation', with a sole focus on blue carbon. This is an Ocean Foundation project, which formed the Blue Climate Coalition: over 100 conservation groups and environmental stakeholders, and over 150 scientists from 43 countries around the world. The Coalition has advanced policy options for blue carbon with the United States executive and legislative branches, US government agencies, and through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process.

Blue Conservancy is an environmental and animal rights non-profit organization that has been involved in the protection of sea turtles in Calabria since 2006. It manages The Brancaleone Sea Turtle Recovery Center which has been active since 2006 and deals with the rescue, treatment and rehabilitation of sea turtles found in difficulty throughout the region, the Strait of Messina and the province.
